I've run an independent yard for the better part of a decade. For years the big classifieds were just a line item, then the invoices climbed - $2k a month became $5k, then $10k, plus "premium placement" and pay-per-lead on top.

At one point I was paying one platform more than my sales manager, and the same lead was being sold to the yard three doors down. Ask to renegotiate and you got an offshore ticket and a 12-month lock-in renewal.
